“Live simply that all may simply live”
By now, you are aware of the way our consumer lifestyle is damaging the environment. Global warming, the damage to the ozone layer, desertification, pollution, and so forth, are matters that concern us all. These issues are also of concern to future generations, for what we leave behind is their heritage. You, therefore, believe, that we must do all we can to preserve the Earth for our children and their children.
Over consumption affects the world’s poor, too. What we buy – and often thoughtlessly waste – in the rich countries, is often the cause of poverty, both at home and in the ‘Third World’. For example, when the goods we take for granted use ‘Third World’ resources of land and labour, we often lock these countries into an economic system of international debt and dependence, and their people into exploitation. Our relatively rich lifestyles often promote injustice, as well as waste…
Along with many others, you have become aware that everything we do, however small, has an impact on ourselves and the world at large.
The LIFE STYLE Movement, founded in 1972, is a network of people who share this perspective, and who are committed to moving towards a more just and sustainable way of life. We believe that change must begin with ourselves. We try to live more thoughtfully and responsibly, mindful of these injustices, and of our impact on the environment. And we, the Lifestyle Movement, need you now. We must ‘live simply, that all may simply live’.
